PROJECTS

Local children at weekend

The Wind Project uses the Royal Yachting Association’s grassroots programme OnBoard, for our local children who Sail regularly with us at weekends. The aim of OnBoard is to provide safe, fun and equal access to Sailing for anyone through a structured and progressive programme.

Half day lessons undertaken with RYA Senior Instructors, no more than eight children receiving formal Sailing tuition, with a bit of fun added in too.

OnBoard sessions contribute to participants’ wider personal and social development. This includes enhancing their social skills with both peers and adults; maturity; ability to accept responsibility and concentrate on tasks.
OnBoard plays an important role in tackling social injustice. It provides unique experiences to those from disadvantaged backgrounds and can help to develop self-confidence and open up further opportunities.
OnBoard sessions particularly develop the attributes of teamwork, communication and confidence. Parents noticed that learning to Sail was challenging, fun and about much more than just Sailing.
